Today an increasing number of people are trying to make more money, setting up home based businesses and working from home. No matter what this business is, no matter how you want to work, either selling some product or providing services, you should be able to manage your time in the most efficient and effective way.

Working from home is not easy, simply because all your favorite distractions are around. TV, radio, game console, fridge… everything that can take you away from your work even for a few minutes is there, so you need to make sure that you can work smarter, because working hard might not really ‘work’ for you.

Thankfully, internet has given us all the chance to work from any place we want. Spending several hours a day, you can set up a business, make it work and make it thrive. At the same time you can be at home, spending time with your kids and your partner, following your favorite hobbies and activities. If you manage your time smartly, you will be more successful and you will make your business grow faster, keeping up with the ‘home’ business as well. Balance is the key word.

Time management refers to proper organization. You need to keep a good business calendar, so as to know when you have to do what. Corporate appointments and business meetings should be fixed in a logical way, allowing you time and space to organize yourself. Starting every month you should be able to put down on paper, or palm top , whatever you need to do; business trips, monthly supplies, meetings, consulting with accountants and webmasters, everything should be organized, so that you have time to deal with unexpected events and unpredictable things.

Organizing your time on a daily basis is also important. Try to organize your daily tasks in such a way so that you have enough time for each. Focus on their on-schedule completion and if necessary talk with your partner and kids and let them know that you need time and privacy so you are able to stay focused and complete your work.

Develop a strictly defined daily routine so that you can keep your business and personal life separate. There will be moments that your personal life will get mixed with your work, but this has to be an exception. Your work time requires your exclusive commitment, as your personal life your exclusive devotion. Everything at its time though. Use a second phone line for business purposes and avoid having the home line close by. You don’t need to respond to the home line when you are working. You should be able to stay focused on the right thing at the right time.

Keep in mind that proper time management will allow you to work less and more effectively, without isolating your family or limiting your personal life.
